Blue Northern
January 14, 2024
I'm currently writing my second novel, scheduled for publication in late summer.

Blue Northern is a fictional tale based on actual events that took place during the Depression of the 1920s, dust bowl storms, and the farm families impacted by WW2.

Proceeds from the sale of my first book were donated to the LST Association and the LST 325 Museum in Evansville, Indiana. Proceeds from the sale of Blue Northern will fund a college scholarship for graduating seniors of Ray County, Missouri.
"HEROES ALL" A STORY INSPIRED BY THE LST 374 AND HER CREW
June 16, 2022
This inspiring, well-researched, well-written story presents the different, but important and often neglected role of the LSTs and their crews in WWII. The sea and the ship become characters in a magical telling of the real-life men aboard the LST Minerva 374 from the beginning of WWII well into its role in some of the main battles. D. M. Hanson brings the young men (including her father) to life giving voice to their hopes, fears, and the very real day-to-day challenges aboard the ship as they set sail across the ocean and go to war. Photographs and illustrations help Hanson bring the story to life. The challenge coin she offers is an added salute to these great men. Proceeds go to the LST Association.

THE WAY I SEE ART: AN INTERVIEW WITH COMBINED MINDS CREATIVE
January 11, 2021
Beauty is in the small things; a hand-written letter to a friend, a loaf of freshly-baked bread for dinner, a water-colored thank-you card to a neighbor, or simply taking time to write in one's journal. Oftentimes we don't allow ourselves time to create, telling ourselves art is a luxury--an act of selfishness. I have learned that art is as necessary for life as is eating right, getting enough exercise, maintaining a good work-life balance, spending time with one's family and friends, and creating a life of exploration and nurture. Art is the glue that brings all these elements together in a visual or auditory expression. Art is the texture of our life's experiences made manifest through our words, our hands, and our voices.

I've been honored to participate in the second Virtual Art on the Bricks exhibit sponsored by the Rogers Chamber of Commerce. Northwest Arkansas has done a wonderful job of providing music, outdoor activities, and virtual art exhibits to ensure the community remains engaged while maintaining a healthy environment for us all. Check out this month's exhibit at: Virtual Art on the Bricks.
